CONTEXT STATEMENT
Beafield Education Centre (BEC) staff collaborate with school Principals / delegates and Student Support Services (SSS) within the Barossa, North and Eastern Regions of South Australia. We are aligned in our service delivery with the Student Support Services teams and work closely with the Managers of Student Support Services and Behaviour Coaches. We also work with Department for Education (DfE) Psychology Services, Special Education, Aboriginal Education, Speech Pathology, Social Work and Early Years Services. BEC members work with other agencies and community groups that include Department of Child Protection (DCP) and Child, Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).
Beafield Education Centre (BEC) is the largest Learning Centre (LC) in South Australia, with a capacity for up to 60 full time students. BEC is part of the Learning and Behaviour Unit (LBU) , which provides restorative educational programs for students (5 – 16yrs old) with behavioural, social, emotional and health and mental health needs that make them vulnerable to early and chronic disengagement from education. Students in L&B Unit services are assisted to develop the skills required either to remain or reintegrate successfully in mainstream schools and support student’s transition program back to their enrolling schools.
Students and families involved with Learning Centres, are overwhelmingly drawn from the 41.5% of all DfE students who possess at least one or more significant complexities, such as ATSI, Disability, Student in Care, English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD), challenging behaviour, mental health, drug and alcohol use, and juvenile justice involvement and those students accessing the School Card scheme.

Our Learning Paradigm clearly outlines the frameworks of practice that are used to shape the intervention, pedagogy and the curriculum we teach. Our reporting frameworks and assessment tools reflect these frameworks of practice.
OUR CURRICULUM
Staff at Beafield Education Centre create opportunities for students to learn, rehearse, master and generalise skills that enable students to re-engage successfully in mainstream contexts and other educational pathways. We use formative assessments to design meaningful literacy, numeracy and social skills programs. Program learning areas are aligned to the Australian Curriculum with particular focus on the Personal and Social Capabilities. At entry point, the Beafield Education Centre case worker shares an outline of their program and discusses appropriate starting points of intervention to better support the student meet their behaviour and learning goals.
